ABSTRACT The interest in waste power plants (WPPs) has significantly increased over recent years owing to massive waste quantities, negative environmental impacts of landfilling, and depletion of conventional energy resources. This paper provides a well-established framework for the technical, environmental and economic life-cycle assessment of WPP projects through the review of relevant reports and studies in the literature. This review covers the standard methods for environmental life-cycle assessment and life-cycle costing of WPP systems. It was found that the environmental and financial lifecycle viability of WPP projects significantly varies with the region and local characteristics.
