This year, the Statistical Developments and Applications (SDA) section enters its third decade as an important section of the Journal of Personality Assessment. 2023 is notable also because Dr. David Streiner has stepped down after 20 years of invaluable vision and service as a founding editor of the section. Over the 20 years of Dr. Streiner’s tenure, the SDA section has published many papers that shape the way that researchers in personality assessment understand and analyze their data. As continuing editors of the SDA section, we wish to express our appreciation for Dr. Streiner’s invaluable service to the field of personality assessment and to invite authors to continue considering the SDA section as outlets for their work. We also wish to provide transparency and clarity regarding the types of work that will best serve the continuing goals of the SDA section. The SDA section receives a wide variety of interesting, thoughtful, and engaging papers; however, we can publish only those most consistent with the goals and orientation of the SDA section. This editorial statement reiterates the goals of the SDA section, and it outlines the types of papers that, in our experience, best fit with those goals. In doing so, we hope to accomplish several things. First, we hope to motivate and encourage authors to send papers to the SDA section. Second, we hope to aid authors in either writing papers that have the greatest odds of being published in the SDA section or identifying whether a given paper will be a good fit for the section. By accomplishing these specific goals, we generally hope to grow the strong legacy of the SDA section, and we hope to help authors make well-informed, productive, and efficient decisions.
