In this study, we examined pathogens and resistance in a large Danish cohort of patients with spontaneous bacterial peritonitis (SBP). Recent international studies report of a shift towards more Gram-positive bacteria in SBP and a marked increase in multidrug resistance bacteria [1–4]. As microbiological agents and resistance patterns vary geographically [5–7], we wished to examine whether these tendencies could be reproduced in a Danish SBP cohort as Denmark has a more restrictive antibiotic policy than other European and overseas countries [8].
