Abstract Two tetracyanonickelate(II) complexes with 2-ethylimidazole ligand have been synthesized as single crystal form and characterized by spectroscopic (infrared and Raman) and single crystal X-ray diffraction techniques. Crystallographic investigation shows that heterometallic complexes have one-dimensional coordination polymers. Vibrational assignments are given for all the observed bands and the spectral features also supported to the crystal structures of the polynuclear complexes. The decomposition reaction takes places in the temperature range 30–700 °C in the dry air atmosphere.
