Abstract A first example of environmentally benign zinc complex catalyzed one-pot four-component reaction between malononitrile, ketone, ammonium acetate and aromatic aldehyde for the facile synthesis of fully substituted pyridines just within 2 min in environmentally friendly solvent ethanol has been optimized.
