Abstract In this study, nano hydroxyapatite/graphene oxide (nHA/GO) composites were successfully modified by polyethyleneglycol, polyvinylpyrrolidone, and chitosan. In vitro cell viability was studied using the MTT assay and ALP activity of the MG-63 osteoblastic cell line. Biocompatibility results revealed that nHA/GO composites modified with synthetic polymers showed enhanced cell viability in comparison to the control and composites with natural polymers. It was found that the viability, cell growth and proliferation of the MG-63 cells improved after 14 days of incubation. The nHA/GO composites modified by synthetic polymers exhibited efficient bioactivity, which was comparable with the conventional composites made from natural polymers.
