In this article, we propose a new improved ratio-product type exponential estimator to estimate the finite population variance . Expressions for bias and mean squared error of proposed estimator are derived up to the first order of approximation. The proposed estimator in different situations has been studied and gives minimum mean square error as compared to all other considered estimators. Some real data sets and simulation studies are performed to observe the performances of the estimators. We show theoretically and numerically that the proposed estimator performs better as compared to all other competitor estimators in all situations.
