The series of HEFAT (Heat Transfer, Fluid Mechanics and Thermodynamics) conferences is one of many conferences for scholars to present their work in progress and to disseminate new research outcomes. In 2002, the 1st International Conference on Heat Transfer, Fluid Mechanics, and Thermodynamics (HEFAT2002) was hosted in the Kruger National Park, South Africa. The 2nd International Conference (HEFAT2003) was hosted at the Victoria Falls, Zambia in 2003. HEFAT2004 was held in Cape Town, and the 4th and 5th conferences took place in Cairo and at Sun City, South Africa, respectively. HEFAT2008 (the 6th International Conference) was held in Pretoria, South Africa and formed part of the University of Pretoria’s 100-year celebrations, “A century in the service of knowledge”. The 7th conference in the series (HEFAT2010) was held in Antalya, Turkey in 2010, the eighth one (HEFAT2011) was held on Mauritius and the 9th, HEFAT2012, onMalta. The 10th HEFAT conference, HEFAT2014, was held in Orlando and the 11th in the Kruger National Park. The 12th (HEFAT2016) was from 11 to 13 July in Malaga, Spain. More than 300 papers were presented of which five were keynote papers. The collection of 12 papers for this issue was selected from the best papers of each session. These papers were selected by the two session chairs. The selected authors were requested to add more material and substance to their conference papers after which the papers followed the normal peer review procedure of the journal to ensure that the papers met journal scope and quality. The first author did most of the work in selecting and evaluating the feedback of reviewers while the second author mentored him. The first paper deals with the problem of determining point thermal transmittance associated with rib intersections. If used, together with previous results of the
