Abstract Fungi are important microorganisms in various sectors, including agriculture, food, medicine, and various others. These fungi include various forms including filamentous, spore-like, and other cultivated and non-cultivated forms. The environmental conditions, habitat, growth sources, and other relative biotic and abiotic conditions for all these fungi varies accordingly. Therefore, the mechanisms for isolation of fungi varies depending upon all the mentioned factors and location. This review article aims to understand the different methodologies for fungal isolation in addition to their principle, procedure, disadvantages, advantages, and limitations of all. Different sources including soil, water, air, and several other habitats have been discussed in this review. The methods from different backgrounds with updated techniques, research, and data have been reviewed and compiled for future developments and research.
