ABSTRACT The drugs are emerging pollutants with great evidence in several scientific studies directed to the removal and separation of these contaminants from aquatic environments. The present study provides an efficient methodology for the determination of the topiramate in aqueous solutions by salting-out assisted liquid-liquid extraction-gas chromatography coupled to mass spectrometry, obtaining optimum recovery efficiency of topiramate, 99.0%. The methodology validation showed linearity with detection limits of 10.23 mg/L and quantification of 30.99 mg/L. The application of the method was founded in monitoring of adsorption assay of drug in perlita expandida, that has been demonstrated efficient (34.0% adsorption removal), since topiramate is a potential micropollutants of aqueous environment.
