ABSTRACT Adsorption of betaxanthin, a natural yellow color extracted from yellow beet, onto various macroporous resins was first evaluated to develop an efficient process for industrial production. Static screening experiments show that LH-17, XAD-16, and XAD-4 resins give good adsorption/desorption performance. The adsorption isotherm data were fitted well to Langmuir isotherm, and the pseudo-first-order equation described kinetic data best. Dynamic column experiments further proved LH-17 resin is a potential industrial adsorbent for the separation of betaxanthin. After one round of operation, betaxanthin recovery ratio was 37.03%, and the purity was 2.18%, 72.4% higher than that of the yellow beet extracts.
