ABSTRACT A national survey of Bachelor of Social Work program directors in the United States was conducted to learn about their current role including their environment, tasks and preparation, and support. Results indicated that most were untenured with no formal training when they assumed the role, and major stressors included accreditation, time demands, and budgetary issues. The vast majority indicated feeling supported and satisfied in their role, with the most common joys being students and their colleagues. Their identified training needs included online education and technology in education followed by accreditation. Implications include a need for increased training and time release.
