Pediatric Rehabilitation – Principles and Practice 5th Edition by Michael A. Alexander and Dennis J. Matthews provides a detailed and up-to-date approach to all aspects of paediatric rehabilitation. Michael A. Alexander is a Professor of Paediatrics, Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation in Philadelphia and collaborates with numerous experts from multi-disciplinary specialities throughout these chapters, to ensure this book incorporates current knowledge and practices in Paediatric Rehabilitation. The major themes of this book highlight the benefits of a holistic approach, signify the importance of a multidisciplinary team and provide useful understanding of the contributions of the different specialities responsible for optimal paediatric neurorehabilitation. Each chapter flows well in the explanation of each subject and surrounding interventions and generally the chapters follow each other succinctly. The writing style is accessible to a post-graduate level, as there tends to be a tendency for acronyms and specialized vocabulary in the chapter detail; however, an undergraduate would also be able to gain benefit from the descriptions of different topics surrounding neurorehabilitation. For someone who is interested in specializing in neurorehabilitation or works as part of the allied health professional team, this book would be useful to have as a reference tool or to explore certain areas in more detail. I have reviewed this book from the point of a British paediatric trainee, still in general training in the NHS, but with an interest in neurodevelopment and rehabilitation.
