I am very honored by Chris Hamnett’s comments on my article (Anne Clerval, 2020) and the debate that the journal allows us to continue. I would like to come back to the three points of debate opened by Hamnett, while regretting that he left aside one of the main elements of the article, namely the question of the definition of the professionalmanagerial class and of its role in gentrification. The objective was not to be satisfied with a descriptive approach by socio-economic groups (a stratificationist approach) but to propose an analysis of gentrification re-embedded in class relations.
