ABSTRACT In this paper, a novel design of circularly polarized gap-coupled wideband microstrip antenna with defected ground structure is presented. This antenna consists of gap-coupled C-shaped radiators and orthogonally slits defect in the ground plane. The measured –10-dB impedance bandwidth (IBW) and 3-dB axial ratio bandwidth (ARBW) of the proposed antenna are 57.33% (8.46–15.26 GHz) and 28.64% (9.78–13.05 GHz), respectively. The measured gain ranges from 3.83 to 3.76 dBi in entire 3-dB ARBW with a peak gain of 4.08 dBi. The prototype of the antenna is practically fabricated and tested.
