This article seeks to analyse how Kader Abdolah, a prominent Dutch writer of Iranian origin, set out to take the position of a public intellectual in his weekly columns for one of the leading Dutch newspapers, de Volkskrant. It will be discussed how Abdolah, being a migrant writer and newcomer in Dutch public debate, defines his mission, how he tries to win his readers’ trust and what kind of message he tries to convey concerning Dutch immigration policy and Dutch multicultural society.
