Professionalism is an essential component of the relationship between optometrists and their patients. It is key to the trust that the public places in the profession; nevertheless, there is a lack of an agreed definition of professionalism and what should be taught to optometry students about professionalism. The aim of this viewpoint is to propose a draft framework for teaching professionalism in optometry schools in Australia and New Zealand.
