The authors ask why we did not detect LDH. We agree that the parameter LDH is very important in this setting. We did not measure the activity of LDH again as we have already analyzed this issue earlier [1]. Here we could clearly demonstrate polyhexanide and chlorhexidine to increase the activity of LDH in osteoblast cultures [1]. Furthermore, the authors criticize that there was no increase of secretion of cytokines with higher chlorhexidine concentrations. But this is the case for the detected FGF basic which increases with higher chlorhexidine concentration [2]. It might even be that there are further concentration-dependent effects, which we could not detect due to values under the detection limit. Furthermore, we were able to demonstrate nearly equal cell damage of osteoblast by counting vital cell and light microscopy [1].
