ABSTRACT The race towards quantum superiority has stimulated efforts on quantum electronics research. This article aims at providing a comprehensive overview of the global research trends and performance in the field, from a bibliometric perspective, using the Scopus database. A total of 10,115 journal articles from the earliest year of publications were retrieved and analysed. Results show that quantum electronics research has gained considerable development since 2008. These reports were mainly contributed by researchers from the United States, China, Germany, the United Kingdom, and Japan. Nevertheless, the publication track faced a striking reduction in the most recent years. Based on the analysis, the most explored topics in quantum electronics were quantum transport, quantum dots, and quantum electrodynamics. The review throws a glimpse of the current trends of quantum electronics research.
