ABSTRACT Strain-rate sensitivity (SRS) of high-Mn austenitic steels at the micrometric scale was investigated. Compressive-deformation response of TWIP steel micropillars demonstrated negative SRS between 1×10−4 and 1 s−1 strain rates, which was terminated by the formation of nanotwins that significantly enhance the work-hardening capacity at 1 s−1.
