ABSTRACT High-fat/high-carbohydrate diets have been proved to be associated with series metabolic syndromes and can lead to non-communicable diseases. In this paper, recent cohort studies and animal experiments about the influences of macro-nutrients (carbohydrate, fat and protein) with different ratios to organisms were overviewed. The results based on meta-analysis and animal experiment were further analysed to illustrate the relationships between diet and health-related problems, such as immune and inflammatory response, insulin resistance, diabetes, obesity, cardiovascular diseases, organ damages and mortality. We expect the review will provide useful evidences for dietary guideline and revision.
