Abstract The aim of the work is to extend the application of the modified Variational Iteration Method suggested by Afshan Kanwa and Syed Tauseef Mohyud-Din to obtaining solutions of linear and nonlinear linear time-fractional equations of order α (1 < α ≤ 2). The fractional derivative is described in the Caputo sense. Some illustrative examples are given, revealing the effectiveness and convenience of the method.
