Abstract Topological properties of fullerenes, nanotubes, nanocones, and nanostars have received considerable attention due to their importance in nanotechnology and as emerging materials of practical applications. In this paper, we focus on topological properties of carbon nanocones (CNCs). Several topological indices are computed utilizing the cut method on strength-weighted graphs, and by the use of this technique, we obtain analytical expressions for a number of distance-based topological indices of CNCs. These computed results are not only mathematical novel but they also facilitate topological characterization of these structures that are finding new applications in the emerging field of nanotechnology.
