Abstract Potassium Calcium Phosphate (KCaPO4) doped with dysprosium (Dy) was prepared by combustion method. X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis of KCaPO4:Dy confirms the phase formation and polycrystalline nature of the compound. Optical properties of the phosphor were characterized by thermoluminescence (TL) and photoluminescence (PL). A simple TL glow curve of the sample irradiated with gamma rays shows peak temperature near about 150 °C. The dose response of the phosphor shows a linear response from 10 Gy to 300 Gy. The obtained TL and PL properties make this phosphor a good candidate for radiation dosimetry as well as in the field of lighting.
