Abstract A novel circularly polarized (CP) antenna with a chamfered and stair-shaped dielectric resonator (CSDRA) is introduced in this article, which introduces a chamfer in the stair-shaped resonator structure. This chamfer has hardly influence on the impedance bandwidth, but a distinct impact on the axial ratio (AR) bandwidth after its dimension is optimized by using HFSS. Simulated results show that the CSDRA has 10 dB return loss of 69.7% (3.91–8.10 GHz) and 3 dB AR bandwidths of 51.4% (3.87–6.55 GHz), respectively, and thus useable bandwidth of 50.4% (3.91-6.55 GHz) is obtained in this article. Moreover, the gain in the working frequency band exceeds 3.36 dBic.
