ABSTRACT This introduction to the Special Issue “Human-Animal Relationships and Welfare in the Anthropocene: Pandemics, Climate Change, and Other Disasters” provides the reasons for creating the Special Issue, its aims and scope, background on the subject area, and an introduction to the papers within it. I also offer suggestions for future research aimed at including in animal welfare studies the consideration of the actual and potential effects of the climate crisis and other environmental concerns on animal welfare.
