Abstract This paper outlines how a Human Resource Management (HRM) module’s assessment structure was transformed to inspire the re-engagement of diverse hospitality undergraduate students. For hospitality educators, maintaining student engagement in subjects with a high theoretical content can be challenging. Therefore, a case study approach was used to redesign the HRM module to incorporate original “authentic” assessments within an assessment for learning (AfL) framework. Creating a reward game was the most popular innovation, making it easier for students to learn key concepts. Measurable increases in student satisfaction ratings indicated that the module was perceived as fun and stimulating. The findings should encourage hospitality educators to include multiple forms of assessment when designing curricula for hospitality students.
