ABSTRACT As a founding member of the Mortality editorial board and a key contributor in the establishment of death studies, Jenny Hockey requires little introduction. This article celebrates Jenny’s extensive contributions and looks at her involvement in the development of the death and dying field. In our interview, Jenny reflects on her personal experiences of doing death research and being a researcher, while demonstrating the ways in which personal experiences impact on to research interests. This article provides an insight into Jenny’s recollections of the early days of Mortality as well as the beginnings of death studies, highlighting Jenny’s important and enduring role in the growth of the field.
