ABSTRACT This paper serves to document the development of the crash test automation system and the steer-induced loss of control test of a Toyota Quantum minibus. The paper covers the literature reviewed for the sake of the crash test, design of the crash test automation system, scale test of the vehicle, documentation of three crash tests performed on the vehicle, computer simulations of one of the tests and final results from testing. After the test was completed, data from the test were gathered and analysed. Video footage of the crash, the crash test manoeuvre performed by the control system and telemetry obtained which were analysed. It was deduced that the leading factor causing the vehicle to not roll over was the road being wet, thus reducing traction and preventing the vehicle from rolling over.
