ABSTRACT The purpose of this research is to identify adequate indicators that can support the assessment of performance improvements associated with the adoption of telemetry systems. The current study builds on prevalent literature, as well as on the analysis and discussion of the application of the proposed set of indicators, to monitor the improvements achieved by a Logistics Service Provider (LSP) in dealing with the transport of express cargo via the road in Brazil. The paper presents insights from the case study conducted with the selected LSP, regarding the same topic. The research utilised data collection methods based on semi-structured interviews and observation methods. The study offers some timely insights for the advancement of knowledge on the topics of implementation and management of telemetry systems. A first outcome concerns the noteworthy observation of the scarcity of academic sources concerning the adoption of telemetry systems by LSPs. Moreover, the study advances and analyses a set of quantitative performance indicators that are relevant in capturing the impacts that stem from the adoption of a telemetry system, including the reduction of costs and the number of accidents. Overall, the study offers a contribution that supports the implementation of telemetry systems in LSPs, while providing managerial insights concerning the development and use of performance indicators for the control of transport processes.
