Nikky Wasuna is among many feminist activist on Kenyan Twitter routinely writing about feminism and younger women. She goes by the tag @viru5detected. 4. I am interpreting ‘Northern’ tomean scholarsnotonlypermanent residents or citizensof countries of theglobal North, but also South-based scholars resident inNorthern universities, or attached to Northern universities through fellowships, citizenship, other forms of employment. 5. A typical example would be junior male academics receiving frequent funding to travel abroad to present papers, but (especially younger) female academics with PhDs routinely having their requests denied, or delayed to the point where the funding is ‘approved’ weeks, even months after the conference ended. 6. The report gives first-hand testimonies by current and former female Vice Chancellors who share their experiences of how they were compelled to spend time and energy fighting patriarchy and proving they were worthy of their titles, despite having undergone rigorous interviews to secure these positions. This energy could have well been expended elsewhere, including in empowering younger female academics.
