Abstract In the late nineteenth century, Argentine politicians and thinkers went to great lengths to devise a White Argentina through European migration and frontier conquest. This article explores the projects of cultural and biological assimilation advanced by these elites to deal with the indigenous survivors of their campaigns of conquest. It identifies the similarities and differences with the Australian case, generating insights that are valuable for both national contexts
