In 2015, the Australia Forum for Sexuality, Education and Health (AFSEH) held its inaugural conference in Sydney on the grounds of Western Sydney University. The conference aimed to increase the public profile of work on equity and justice particularly in relation to contemporary issues of gender, sexuality, health and education and their intersections. Simon Blake, OBE, delivered one of the key note addresses at the conference. Simon is the Chief Executive of the National Union of Students (UK), an organisation which works to shape education and empower individuals with the ultimate goal of contributing to a just and sustainable future. As the former Chief Executive Officer of Brook, the UK’s largest young people’s sexual health charity, his insight and expertise into the sexual health and education needs of young people is unparalleled. In his earlier role as Assistant Director of Children’s Development and Director of the Sex Education Forum at the National Children’s Bureau in England, Simon built collaborations across education, health and social care that provide excellent models as well as inspiration and direction for those working in similar fields internationally. Simon possesses real-world insight and strategic experience in forging alliances, promoting equity and bringing about change.
