The Coronavirus Disease-2019 (COVID-19) pandemic has caused immeasurable human suffering and economic harm. However, unprecedented global will and collaboration among all stakeholders – scientific community, political leadership, pharmaceutical industries, and funding agencies – led to dream-like success with the development of safe and effective vaccines against Severe Acute Respiratory Syndromeassociated Coronavirus-2 (SARS-CoV-2) within 12 months of identification of the novel virus: something that otherwise would have taken over a decade. After the roll-out of the vaccines, cases and hospitalization/deaths due to COVID-19 started decreasing in vaccinated populations. Formal studies done on different COVID-19 vaccines in different parts of the world showed high vaccine effectiveness (VE) against severe disease, hospitalization, and deaths, moderate against symptomatic disease, and modest effectiveness against transmission [1,2].
