ABSTRACT Are narcissists more attractive and perceived as such? In a preregistered multi-Study project, we aimed at gaining differentiated insights into this classic question, by considering agentic and antagonistic faces of narcissism (narcissistic admiration and rivalry) and adjustable (i.e., hard work of grooming and styling) and fixed (i.e., natural beauty) indicators of physical attractiveness. Results of Studies 1 (representative panel) and 2 (laboratory-based) suggest that agentic but not antagonistic narcissism is linked to attractiveness and according perceptions, with no consistent differences between attractiveness indicators. In Study 3 (field-based), narcissism was unrelated to attractiveness. Results underline the importance of a facet approach to narcissists’ attractiveness, the consideration of a wider range of attractiveness indicators, and the potential influence of contextual moderators.
