Abstract Ground breaking findings from “Engagement in Sport Career Transition Planning Enhances Performance” are reviewed from a practitioners perspective in order to highlight the significance of these findings. Through applying an organisational psychologist perspective that introduces the notion that performance can be viewed from three perspectives in professional sport, this commentary specifically addressed the advancements in sports and coaching sciences and the consequences thereof when considering the wholistic wellbeing of those employed as profesional rugby players in Wales. Furthermore, it is suggested that the findings create an opportunity for significant advancements in both the wellbeing support provided by player associations to professional athletes, as well as the recognition by stakeholders of their role in duty of care.
