ABSTRACT The article presents results of effect of temperature on extra ordinary and ordinary refractive indices, order parameter, molecular polarizabilities and textures of a laterally fluorinated LC compound, viz, 2′, 3′-difluoro-4, 4″-dipropyl-1, 1′:4′,1″-terphenyl, or in short as C3PP(23F)PC3. Using the Vuks' model we calculated the polarizabilities based on the refractive index data obtained through thin prism experiment. A Four Parameter Model was used for fitting the experimental results. The results show good agreement between theoretical and experimental values. The mesophase texture was studied using polarising optical microscopy technique. The optimised molecular structure was generated and studied using software.
