ABSTRACT Fluorine-containing organosulfur molecules are an important class of biologically active compounds and potential drug candidates. Consequently, significant effort has been made to exploit efficient strategies towards the synthesis of the titled compounds. Recently, direct incorporation of fluorinated groups into S-H bonds has attracted a lot of attention. This review conveys the most important advances and explorations in the direct mono-, di-, and tri-fluoromethyl(thiol)ation of S-H bonds with special emphasis on the mechanistic aspects of the reactions.
