ABSTRACT At present, floating breakwaters (FBs) have a good attenuating effect on short period wave, but the transmission coefficient of long period wave is still high and single-row FBs usually cannot provide desirable environment at adverse sea condition. Therefore, in order to attenuate the incoming wave better, a double-row FB system, consisted of two porous FBs with different distances in the wave direction, is proposed. A series of two-dimensional experiments were carried out in the wave flume (40 m*0.8 m*1.4 m) of the Jiangsu University of Science and Technology, China. Hydrodynamic characteristics of the FBs are illustrated and discussed to gain the conclusion that double-row FB system does better in many respects than single-row. Moreover, the particular porous design can effectively attenuate the incident waves with slight motion responses and small mooring forces.
