Abstract The objective of this study is to propose an approach for successful implementation of supplier development activities (SDAs) by understanding the interrelationships between various supplier development enablers (SDEs) using interpretive structure modelling (ISM) and finding the driving and the dependence power of SDEs using fuzzy matrice d’impacts croisés multiplication appliquée á un classement (MICMAC ) analysis. The outcome of ISM is given as input to the fuzzy MICMAC analysis to identify the driving and the dependence power of SDEs which categorize the SDEs into two groups according to their driving SDEs and their dependence SDEs. A team of industry practitioners and academicians was consulted and with the help of ISM the contextual relationship between various SDEs was developed for successful implementation of SD activity. This study has strong practical implications, for both practitioners as well as academicians, to differentiate driving and dependent SDEs and their interrelationships, which will help them to concentrate on crucial SDEs for successful implementation of SDAs.
