ABSTRACT This article focuses predominantly on conflict and disaster prone places as the major cause of right to food violations in the form of severe hunger and malnutrition. Food insecurity, in its most extreme form of famine, but also in the form of malnutrition, has increased alarmingly in the face of abundant food availability. Hunger and famine in a variety of combat settings inflict massive casualties and widespread suffering on the civilian population. This article will critically review the existing norms and guidelines, the non-compliance of States and other political actors and the failure to address international criminal behaviour to stop human rights violations in conflict and emergency situation.
