resulting from academic-industry relationships will take form as advances in neurotechnology research continue to be made. With this uncertainty comes an opportunity to preventively identify, plan for, and mitigate the unique and potentially harmful risks that may result from academic relationships with neurotechnology industry partners. Moving forward, future research must identify strategies for doing this effectively. In sum, it is imperative that industry relationships and resulting COIs also be included on the menu of considerations for future neuroscience research. Doing so will enable timely anticipation of and response to future ethical challenges likely to emerge as industrysponsored neurotechnology research continues. Failure to contend with these ethical considerations early on in the trajectory of neurotechnology research can result in unintentional, yet harmful consequences for patients, the public, and the reputation of neurotechnology researchers.
