ABSTRACTThis commentary takes up the question of social movements introduced in Kieran Allen’s contribution, to argue for a more sustained reflection on the vitality and necessity of an autonomous grassroots left. Such movements are responding to both the economic conditions of neoliberalism and the racist, anti-immigrant discourse deployed as its justification.
