ABSTRACT The water-cooled nozzle works in quite difficult conditions: on the one hand, it comes into contact with liquid metal or slag, on the other it is cooled by water, receives and transmits large heat fluxes and experiences frequent heat changes. When welding copper with steel, an eutectic is formed at the grain boundaries, which reduces the efficiency of the weld. Scientific work has been performed to reduce the risk of eutectic formation. The method of preparation of metal edges by rolling was investigated. The calculation and analysis of the stress-strain state of the metal was done for rolling the edges of copper. The optimal values were set when analysing and comparing the results of rolling at different compressions. The performed thermocyclic tests confirmed the results of the study when rolling the edges of copper intracrystalline shifts interfere with the formation of eutectic in large quantities. Calculation of the field of equivalent plastic deformations was done for rolling the edges of copper depending on the compression. Preparation of copper edges before welding by rolling reduces the risk of formation of a large number of eutectic compounds. This method increases the quality of the weld, durability and efficiency of the blast furnace.
