Andrew Yacoot National Physical Laboratory, Teddington, TW11 0LW Middlesex, United Kingdom E-mail: [email protected] This annual review is particularly noteworthy as Measurement Science and Technology has completed a century of reporting some of the best of developments in measurement science throughout the world and has stood the test of time given the abundant choice of journals accepting work for publication. Looking back on the last year, I would like to thank the global measurement community for their continued support for Measurement Science and Technology. This year has been another successful year for the journal. Both our submission and acceptance rates have increased as well as the number of articles downloaded having increased by nearly 20%. The impact factor has increased to 2.398. Our Editorial Team is mindful of authors’ desire to publish work as quickly as possible while still ensuring work undergoes a rigorous refereeing process. With this in mind, the articles are published online with a DOI within 24 hours of acceptance. As ever we have continued to publish topical reviews giving comprehensive overviews of areas of measurement. This year we have published eleven reviews covering a wide range of topics: electromechanical resonators for sensing fluid density and viscosity, high speed imaging for x-ray computer tomography, seismography, thermometry, aeroacoustics, magnetic position sensing, digital holography, microelectromechanical systems (MEMS) supporting geotechnical monitoring and nanotechnology used for sensing SARS-CoV-2. The breadth of topics strongly reflects not only the diversity of the journal, but also exemplifies a common theme of excellence in measurement science. Our Special Issues have also been popular. This year they have covered, metrology for additive manufacturing, acoustics in measurement, industrial vision and automation, measurement-based decision making in structural health monitoring, pressure-sensitive and temperature-sensitive paints for measuring high speed and unsteady flows. The Special Issue on metrology in manufacturing highlighted the industrial importance of metrology. The journal has also continued to publish a few design notes describing small pieces of work. A collection of six Emerging Leaders articles have been published bringing together work from some of the best early-career researchers in measurement and metrology [1–6]. This year also saw the publication of our first road map [7]. It covered the important area of signal processing for next generation measurement systems; something that relates to almost every area of measurement. This road map was followed up by a successful webinar where several authors gave presentations on their contributions. A road map on imaging is in preparation for publication in 2023. As with previous years, awards were made for Outstanding Papers [8]. This year awards were presented in the areas of optical and laser-based techniques [9], sensors and sensing systems [10], precision measurement [11] and fluid mechanics [12].
