A battery-operated and LED-based lamp is attached to the bottom of the mass hanger of a vertical-spring mass oscillator. Allowing oscillations above a small solar panel, which is connected to a computer that runs a soundcard oscilloscope, an oscillating voltage output is generated. Recorded as a time series on the oscilloscope, the output voltage straightforwardly allowed for the measurement of the period of oscillations. Thus, the measurement of the spring constant. The result matches well with the accepted value.
