Preterm delivery is one of the leading causes of neonatal death (1). Increasing evidence demonstrates that preterm delivery elevates the risks of neural, cardiovascular, andmetabolic diseases in adulthood (2). Several potential risk factors for preterm delivery, such as maternal infection or inflammation, race, and preeclampsia, have been identified (3). Nevertheless, evidence on whether prepregnancy body mass index (BMI; weight (kg)/height (m)) influences risk of preterm delivery remains contradictory. Thus, we investigated the association between prepregnancy BMI and risk of preterm delivery in aChinese population.
