Abstract Background Clinicopathological of breast cancer have different treatment response and clinical outcomes. The platelet lymphocyte ratio (PLR) is an emerging indicator for inflammation, diagnostic and prognostic tool in cancer. This study aimed to evaluated the association of PLR ratios with clinicopathological characteristics to clarify the role of PLR in breast cancer examination. Methods An analytical cross-sectional study was conducted using secondary data from medical records among 105 breast cancer patients over a 5-year period were identified. Patients were classified into variable studied included TNM (tumor, node, metastatic status), clinical stadium (I-IV), grade (I-III), estrogen (ER), progesterone (PR), Ki-67, subtypes: luminal (A and B) and non-luminal (Her-2 and TNBC). Data were analyzed using SPSS ver. 22 in mean±SD, percentage, and odds ratio (OR). Results The average age of subjects were 50.44±1.06 years-old and about 34.3% were stage IIIB. The overall mean PLR ratio was 210.9 and cut-off point used in this study is 137.81 (AUC 0.719). The analysis showed significant relationship between PLR with tumor (T) (OR: 4.000; CI95%: 1.679-9.529; P = 0.001), metastatic status (OR: 12.375; CI95%: 1.617-100.27 P = 0.003), clinical stadium (OR: 3.333; CI95%: 1.429-7.774; P = 0.004), ER expression (OR: 0.292; CI95%: 0.117-0.729: P = 0.007), subtype (luminal and non luminal) (OR: 4.565, CI95%: 1.686-12.631; P = 0.002). There was no significant relationship between node status, grade, PR, and Ki67 with PLR in breast cancer patient. Conclusion There was a significant relationship between PLR with tumor, metastatic status, clinical stadium, ER expression, and subtype. However, the other variables that did not show significant relationship need further investigation. As such, further studies with bigger sample size are necessary to learn the cause behind the peculiar Results.
