The HLS-EU project (2009-2012) supported by EU-SANCO for the first time measured health literacy of general populations with a comprehensive concept and instrument comparatively in 8 European member states. This led to WHOs publication The solid facts – Health Literacy (2013) and a number of further countries used the HLS-EU concept, instrument and study design. To enable standardized benchmarking between member states WHO-Europe initiated under its umbrella of the European Health Indicator Initiative (EHII) the Action Network on measuring population and organizational health literacy (M-POHL). Within this network more than 20 countries are preparing a next European Health Literacy Survey for 2019. Furthermore the network will work on concept and measurement instruments for assessing organizational health literacy in health care and beyond. The input will give an overview on the planned activities of the M-POHL network.
