Objectives: Aim to explores the characteristic of central blood pressure and arterial stiffness in essential hypertension with overweight or obesity Methods: Two hundreds subjects of essential hypertension were selected from Lanzhou University Second Hospital during November 2014 to November 2015. All patients divided into three groups by the BMI (body mass index), normal group (N = 75, 18.5 ⩽ BMI < 24), overweight group (N = 71, 24 ⩽ BMI < 28), obesity group (N = 54, BMI ≥ 28). Body height, weight, waist circumference, fast plasma glucose, plasma lipid, peripheral brachial blood pressure were measured. Central blood pressure and arterial stiffness parameters were detected by Sphygmocor Clinical Assessment. Then, compared the difference of central blood pressure and arterial stiffness parameters among three groups. Results: With the increased of BMI, the SBP, DBP, cSBP, cDBP were raised, only the difference of SBP and PP between normal group and obesity group was statistically significant. For obesity group, the AIx and AIx75HR was lower than overweight group, just the difference of overweight group and obesity group was significant, when adjusted the age.The cf-PWV in three had mini difference and those were not any significant. There were positive correlation between BMI with SBP, DBP, cSBP, cDBP; and negative correlation with AIx, no correlation with PWV. Conclusion: With the increased of BMI, the peripheral brachial blood pressure and central blood pressure were all raised, but the influence of BMI on preipheral blood pressure was more apparent, it was due to the over estimate prepheral blood pressure for coarser biceps circumference in obeses people.
